Hello, WordPress users! Version 4.1 of the WordPress for Android app is now available in the Google Play Store, and we’ve introduced some noticeable changes.

What’s new

App redesign

In version 4.1, you’ll notice a fresh overall redesign! We’ve changed the way you navigate in the app: instead of the previous menu drawer, you’ll see a tab-based user interface with four main tabs: My Site, Reader, My Profile, and Notifications. With these easily accessible tabs, you can navigate quickly to what you need.

My Site and My Profile are brand-new: on My Site, you can manage your currently selected site, and on My Profile, you can manage your profile and app settings, and also get support. We know a picture is worth a thousand words, so here are screenshots of the new interface:

With this new UI, we continue to work toward creating a consistent and seamless mobile experience across your devices and our apps.

More improvements

  • Tag auto-completion: Now, when you add a tag to a post or page, the app will suggest existing tags as you type, which we hope will speed up the process and prevent typos!

  • Improved stats experience: We’ve made behind-the-scenes improvements to decrease the amount of time it takes to load all of your data, especially for those of you who like to check and keep track of your stats very frequently. Now, viewing and interacting with your stats should be smoother.

Bug fixes

  • Incorrectly bumped stats: In some cases, we noticed that visits to users’ own sites from the app were bumping their stats. We’ve made fixes to solve this issue.
  • Back button fix: We also fixed a rare issue on some Android versions in which the app did not quit when a user hit the back button. Now, tapping the back button quits the app as expected.

Beta

Do you enjoy keeping up with what’s new in the app, testing stuff, and exploring new UI changes before anyone else? Our testers have access to beta versions with updates shipped directly through Google Play. The beta versions may have new features, new fixes — and possibly new bugs! Testers make it possible for us to improve the overall app experience, and offer us invaluable development feedback. Want to become a tester? Please request access through our Google+ Community.
